Patrol is pro-active in preventing
crime.
Officers are
assigned zones which keep them close for any call. K-9 teams work the
streets to assist with high risk calls, including burglaries and drug
arrests. Grants allow additional Officers to be at your service during
weekends and other high call times.
Criminal Investigation
Division. Detectives investigate all felony crimes. Evidence collected
is processed by C.I.D. and sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab for further
identification of suspects. Major crime scenes are processed by the
Detectives.
Communications is manned by highly trained
civilian employees. All El Dorado 911 calls are answered by EPD
dispatchers. A CAD system assists with dispatching and record
keeping for communications. A mapping program assists dispatchers with
calls, including cell call location. All dispatchers are trained and certified by the Arkansas Crime
Information Center. The Special Investigations
Division handles narcotics, vice and other related offenses. The Bike Patrol is used extensively during the summer months and
during special events including Music Fest, High school football games
and the Union County Fair. Bike Officers patrol downtown, around
shopping areas and throughout the city.
The three
K-9 teams assist all divisions.
K-9 units work routine patrol assignments and assist with
burglary in progress calls, building searches, crowd control,
drug arrests and fleeing felony suspects. El Dorado's K-9s
have won State and National awards!!!
The Records Division is where you receive information regarding criminal
reports, accident reports, background checks, and it's where you may pay your fine. Contact
records for general
information regarding the police department.
The Crisis Negotiation Team
operates in conjunction with the tactical team (S.W.A.T.) and is utilized
in suicide prevention as well as barricaded suspect and hostage
situations. Successful negotiation with a suspect or perpetrator results
in resolving a situation without the use of force. The five member team is
always on call and ready to respond. Certified School
Resource Officers are
assigned to the high school, junior high and middle school to continue a partnership
between education and law enforcement. S.R.O.'s on campus help
counsel students and initiate team building and peer mediation.
The El Dorado Police Department Bomb Squad is a four man unit,
two of whom are certified bomb technicians. The Bomb Squad not only serves El Dorado and Union County but also
surrounding areas. The goal of the Bomb Squad is to protect the community from any
explosive devices and render those devices harmless.
