Dispatcher

   The El Dorado Police Department is NOT currently hiring for this position.

The El Dorado Dispatch Center is comprised of ten full time civilian employees answering calls for both the El Dorado Police Department and the El Dorado Fire Department. The civilian dispatcher pay starts at $16.72 an hour. Dispatchers work 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off and plenty of overtime opportunities.  Benefits are as follows:

Dispatcher Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a U.S. citizen or able to work in the U.S.
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Be able to pass a drug test
  • Possess a current valid Driver’s License
  • Be able to work holidays and weekends

Dispatcher Preferences (but are not required)

  • Experience as dispatcher or similar position
  • Fast typing skills
  • Experience in data entry
  • Hands on experience working in stressful, emergency situations
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills

Dispatcher duties and responsibilities

  • Receive and answer emergency and non-emergency police and fire/EMS calls
  • Dispatch emergency and non-emergency police and fire/EMS personnel
  • Record all the calls
  • Proactively address problems and suggest solutions
  • Assess situation and prioritize calls
  • Inform field units about orders and traffic
  • Track and update call logs and data in software programs
  • Provide reports to supervisors
